You had better believe I’m taking one of these babies the next time I go to Mexico (or anywhere else for that matter)

Zombie Jesus?: This particular statue made it appear as if Jesus just had abdominal surgery. Odd.

Baby Jesus with Milagros: Milagros are little trinkets of silver representing body parts or something symbolizing a person. By placing them in this case with the baby Jesus doll one is hoping for healing or protection of the person represented. Every church has multiple displays like this, of Jesus as infant or adult and of Mary and various saints.

Church doors: Almost all the church doors in central Mexico are like this - massive and cut away for easier daily traffic. No need to open the main doors unless there is a procession involving banners and big hats.

Home at Last

We’re home, picked up the doggie, unpacked, vegged out.

Tomorrow is a holiday and we are *really* glad we have the extra day to recover.  I will upload remaining pics and video and post a lot tomorrow.  I haven’t even seen the pyramids yet!

Last night in Mexico

We both slept fairly well last night, especially since the beds were a bit softer than most we’ve found here in Mexico.

This morning Dixie headed out for the pyramids while I stayed in the room and took pills, rested, fiddled with the internet, and rested some more.  This afternoon I got brave and we both went downtown to the central historical district.  It was warm but not too bad in the shade.  We saw stuff.  Aztec temple ruins, big churches, the descendants of indigenous tribes dancing everywhere.  We went up to the observation deck of the Latin American Tower and took pictures.  We had lunch at McDonalds.  No more Mexican food for me, at least not on this trip.

We took a stroll after dark, checked out the Angel of Independence obelisk thingy nearby, then had dinner at Starbucks.  The mayo on my “Original Panini” had chipotle in it.  They’re out to get me, I swear.

Our flight leaves at 10:00am tomorrow, so it’s an early bedtime for us.  Thanks for reading along!

I will finish picture and video updates Sunday evening and/or Monday (a holiday).

Hasta Luego!
